About HeritageCheck
What HeritageCheck does
HeritageCheck helps people understand the heritage and planning information connected to a property. You can run a free conservation area check, view nearby listed buildings or order a property report before buying or planning work.
Free property checks
Enter a postcode to see whether the location is in a conservation area and explore the published boundary on a map. You can also see listed buildings recorded nearby. The free checker covers England, Scotland and Wales.
Property reports
For properties in Greater London, you can order a report for an exact address. HeritageCheck checks conservation areas, nearby listed buildings, Article 4 information and useful council documents against the work you are considering. Reports with uncertain findings are held for review before they are sent.
The current price is shown before payment. Every order has a 30-day full money-back guarantee: ask for a refund for any reason, with no explanation required.

Tools for property teams
Use the bulk checker to check several postcodes, connect your own system through the HeritageCheck API, or add the free postcode checker to a website.
Data and limitations
HeritageCheck uses published information from national heritage bodies, local authorities and open mapping sources. Boundaries and records can change between updates. A result is not planning permission or legal advice; confirm important findings against current official sources.
How the free result is produced
We locate the postcode and compare its representative point with the published conservation area boundaries held by HeritageCheck. The result names the data source. The map and nearby listed-building records help you explore the surroundings; proximity to a listed building does not establish that your property is listed.
A postcode can cover several addresses and a boundary can pass between them. Use the result to start your research, then confirm the exact building against the council's current map, especially near an edge.
How a property report differs
You select an address in Greater London before ordering. The report brings together available heritage designations, planning applications, Article 4 information and EPC records for that property, with source links and the limits of each check. Clear cases are delivered automatically; uncertain cases are held for review.
Published records can be incomplete, delayed or recorded under an older address. A missing record is not a clean bill of health. The report explains further checks to make, rather than treating missing information as confirmation that there is no restriction.
Checking sources and correcting mistakes
Follow the official source links when a finding matters to a purchase or proposed work. Check the address, document date and extent of the designation, rather than relying on a summary alone. The local planning authority can confirm current boundaries and controls.
If you spot an incorrect result, send us the postcode or report reference, the issue you found and a link to the council or official record. We can investigate the source and matching information. Please do not send payment details or private property documents with an initial enquiry.
